A test in a controlled environment, on a workshop bench, doesn't always reveal the real stresses an object will face once used: temperature, moisture, repeated impacts, handling by an unfamiliar user. Bringing the test closer to real conditions of use is often what separates a validated prototype from one that only seems functional under ideal conditions.
What a test should try to reveal, not just confirm
A good prototype test actively looks for weak points rather than simply confirming the object works under the best conditions. Deliberately pushing the part beyond its normal use often reveals a weakness before it becomes a real problem once in actual use.
